Phi Sigma Iota is the International Foreign Language Honor Society. It is the highest academic honor in the field of foreign languages. The members of the honor society are outstanding Junior and Senior undergraduate students, and graduate students of foreign languages and literatures including Classics, Comparative Literature, Bilingual Education and Applied Linguistics, who have an overall GPA of 3.0 and are at the upper 35% of their class, and who have completed at least 3 semesters or 5 quarters of college-level coursework.

Phi Sigma Iota was founded in 1922 at Allegheny College.  Since then there have been over 60,000 members and more than 250 chapters in the United States, France, and Mexico.
