Dr. Lewis joined the Wesleyan Theatre program in Fall 2006 as a scholar, teacher, author and director. Four of her recent Wesleyan productions have won awards for “Excellence in Directing” from the Kennedy Center/American College Theatre Festival. She co-authored the scripts for her 2012 production of A Point in the Heart and her 2010 Medea/Myth and wrote the adaptation for her 2011 production of the Gilbert and Sullivan operetta Princess Ida. Before coming to Wesleyan, Dr. Lewis taught theatre studies at a variety of institutions. She directed over forty projects for Los Angeles’ professional theatres, including the prestigious Mark Taper Forum. For twelve years, she was the Literary Manager and Dramaturg at the Odyssey Theatre Ensemble in Los Angeles, where she acted, directed, produced, and developed new plays with authors from New York, Chicago, and California. She also has experience in screenplay analysis and film production. Dr. Lewis is a member of numerous professional and scholarly theatre associations. Her scholarly research and publishing focus on theatrical constructions and performances of raced, ethnic and/or gendered stereotypes.Courses Taught
